Biweekly report (Week 1 & 2)- School Internship Phase 1

         Introduction

We ( Athulya, Anulekshmi, Anuja, Krishnapriya, Theertha, Sudheesh and I) began our first phase school internship programme at GHS Perumpazhuthoor school. The school has a total of 7 divisions from class 8 to 10, having an average of 35 students in each class. Today, as it was the first day, our concerned teachers gave us necessary instructions and allocated us to the respective classes 8 & 9. I got 9B (English medium) for teaching mathematics. The teachers gave us the duty chart including breakfast duty, lunch duty, discipline duty, etc. 

                              

Day 1: 12 August 2024

On the second period, after getting acquainted with the students, I taught 9B the section 'product of sums' in the chapter 'Multiplication Identities' according to the lesson plan I prepared earlier and showed chart as the teaching-learning aid. After the class, doubts of students were cleared and Homeworks were given.

 Day 2: 13 August 2024

Today, on second period, I taught 9B based on lesson plan 2 and showed chart as teaching-learning aid. After the class, doubts of students were cleared and Homeworks were given as usual. 

Day 3: 14 August 2024

I taught 9B The section 'special operations' on third period. I showed a slide as the teaching aid and cleared doubts of students as usual.

Day 4: 16 August 2024

The school parliament election was held today from 10.00 am to 11.00am. I got the election duty. All the teachers collected the result and held a special assembly at 11.30am to declare the result.

I taught 9B on fourth period. Today was the continuation of the previous class. I showed a slide as teaching aid.

Day 5: 19 August 2024

Today there was assembly at the school. On the assembly, all members elected for school parliament tool the pledge of allegiance. After their oath, there was some cultural programs related to 'CHINGAM 1'. During the program, Godwin sir was selected as the best farmer among the teachers and as the best CPO of SPC.

I got the 2nd period to teach 9B. The section "number curiosities' was taught today using the 'DISCOVERY LEARNING METHOD' and used chart as teaching aid. Activity cards were also given to students.

Day 6: 21 August 2024

I had third period on 9B. I taught the section' multiplication with a difference' using CONSTRUCTIVIST MODEL' and used chart as teaching aid. I also got the opportunity to stand as a substitute on 4th standard as there was a teacher absent today.

Day 7: 22 August 2024

Today was the Sports Day of the school. The program was started at 10.45, after the first period. Hence I taught 9B on 1st period by using slide as the teaching aid.

Day 8: 23 August 2024

Today there was assembly. Winners of the sports day were given trophies and certificates. Today our Maths sir from college, Samuel Sir came for observation. I taught 9B on the second period and used chart as teaching aid.

Conclusion

The first two weeks were spent getting ourselves familiarized with the school, students and finding our foot as new teachers. It was slightly difficult to apply the theories we learned at our college in a practical way. But as the days went by, I realized why the Teaching field is considered as a noble profession and how rewarding it is. 

Suggestions
  • I think I could use innovative techniques to engage students in learning.
  • More importance should be given to my voice modulation.
